sister's visiting

So I got to spend a day with my only sibling, Katy, who's here from London for 4 days. I haven't seen her for a tumultous year in which she kept trying marital counseling, decided it wasn't going to work and got a divorce, sold one of two apartments, moved into the one not sold, and has entered the dating world. Luckily she's got a good, trusted therapist who has helped her through this and is helping her pick Mr. Right, should he come along, and quickly reject the Mr. Wrongs. One of Char's friends coined the phrase "like a shark through tuna" for how Katy goes through men. She's on number 4 since August and they've all been attractive, super wealthy, and wanting to date her (or marry her as in the case of one who was dumped for getting too serious). One billionaire flew her to Corfu in his private jet, but he did not make the cut. The current french guy is a Knight in France (not the SCA type) who's father still lives in their castle in Burgundy and whose hobby is playing polo and raising and selling polo ponies. And he has a strong French Accent! It's good to see her getting some confidence back in her own attractiveness. It's good to see her at all. Char is a super prince for taking the kids to his parents' house this weekend so I can listen to Katy undisturbed. Katy only vaguely understands that I will feel uncomfortable ignoring my kids if they try to get my attention while she's talking, and it's much easier for me to spend time with her (our once a year visit) if they are happily occupied elsewhere. She even was asking about her genetic risks of having kids with Asperger's disorder this morning, so she's meeting some guys who are making her re-open the door of thinking about having kids.
But on the superficial side, we go shopping! We went to the Grove City outlets which I haven't been to since Yoshie visited from Japan 4-5 years ago. I seem to go there when visitors from another country want to buy stuff for "practically free" given a good exchange rate for them. She bought some clothes at Ralph Lauren Polo store. I bought boots for Joshua, running pants and gloves and jacket and socks, two 12th Night gifts, 2 willow baskets, 3 lamp set, 3 hair things, 2 pairs of shoes size 12, 2 pairs of pants, pants and shirt for Ian, 1 bottle perfume, cookies and chocolate, and then 2 gothic arch mirrors on the way home in Marshalls. Whew - good thing she came all this way so /she/ could go shopping.

sewing project

Since nothing wonderfully interesting has happened in the week since Char signed me up for LJ, I'm just going to jump right in with the "every day thoughts".
I'm in the good phase of sewing Char's Twelfth Night garb: very motivated to work on it (to the point it's a little obsessive), happy with how the pieces are coming together, not yet hitting major problems, and hoping to finish "soon". I'm guilty when my fighting coat's sleeve flew off in practice because I haven't sewed it back on and my swords' thrusting tips are super ratty. This is the guilt a fighter should feel when faced with 4 hours of time before fighting practice "wasted" on faux-fur-lined, dagged sleeves for Char's houppelande. Realistically, this will be replaced with a phase of: not so motivated but more time pressure to finish, hit a problem that's beyond my expertise to fix, and realizing I'm not going to be finished any time "soon" but will likely be sewing a few days before Twelfth Night when I'd rather be sleeping.
It was great to see Boden at practice but bad to hear we're losing him to NYU. And bad to hear we're losing the abandoned warehouse as an indoor site. So archery and fighting practice is at the castle Sunday before New Years'.
So ends LJ entry one. We'll see if this becomes the habit it has been for Char.
